Clay Harris
Harris victorious in 604 Late Model at Golden Isles after tough week with Summer Nationals
On Monday afternoon, Clay Harris returned to his No. 21j Modified at Lake Cumberland Speedway (Burnside, Ky.) to compete with the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds.
With 27 entries in the pit area, Clay rolled off 10th in the main event before mechanical issues forced him to pull in early. He was scored 18th.
Traveling all the way to Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) on Fourth of July, Harris was running in the sixth-position when his nose folded under himself which ended his night prematurely.
With Wednesday's event at Red Hilll Raceway (Sumner, Ill.) rained out, Clay turned his focus to Thursday's show at Macon Speedway (Macon, Ill.). Following the fifth-quickest lap in his qualifying group, Harris once again dealt with mechanical issues in his heat race. He was unable to make repairs in time for his Last Chance Showdown.
With lingering issues on his No. 21j Modified, Clay Harris made the tough decision to head home early and turn his focus to 604 Late Model competition at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) for the Summer Speed Scorcher.
Following the second-fastest lap in qualifying among 19 Late Models, Clay picked up the victory in his heat race. Lining up from the fifth-position in the main event, Harris quickly moved into the Top-3 before overtaking race-long leader Jason Garver on lap 15 of 25. Clay was unchallenged in the final 10 laps and bagged $3,000 for his efforts over Trynt Lloyd and Hunter Peacock who completed the Top-3.
